Earlier this month WooCommerce 3.0, dubbed “Bionic Butterfly”, was officially released.

This is a major upgrade in place of the planned 2.7 release bringing with it several new features and updates, including:

  • An updated product gallery with new zoom, gallery view and mobile features
  • Multiple speed and performance improvements
  • The addition of CRUD classes
  • A new CLI powered by the REST API

It’s been a while since the last major upgrade so we’re looking forward to checking it out.

As with any major upgrade, we don’t start rolling it out to our clients’ sites before the first few minor updates have been released.

This allows time for the developers to fix any unforeseen snags or problems identified by the market after the major release, which means we can deliver a smoother upgrade process.

If you want to know more about the technical side of WooCommerce 3.0, there’s a more in-depth post on WordPress.com.

Next week, Week 17, will see us start the process of rolling out the latest version of the plugin. As this is a major upgrade, we’ll be creating a support ticket for each site and following a strict testing procedure to make sure everything is working properly after the upgrade.

Where possible, we’ll be testing the upgrade in a staging area (standard on our Enterprise plan and above) before deploying the changes to the live site.

All our plans include guaranteed plugin updates but we also provide support on hourly rate basis. Contact us here to find out more about how we can support your site.
